Mark Baumgartel
Class of 2024
Supporter

Mark Baumgartel played an integral role in the development of Battle Creek students while serving as the principal, athletic director, and junior high teacher at St. John Lutheran School from 1978-1989. Mark loved sharing knowledge with students and always searched for ways to tailor his teaching to make sure the individual student was served. Many former St. John students have credited “Mr. B” with the success they had as they transitioned from the Blue and White to the Purple and Gold, stating he cared deeply about their all-around development and was instrumental in preparing them for high school. Mark also valued his relationship with Coach Bob Schnitzler as they worked closely together to incorporate St. John in Battle Creek’s junior high programs. He loved bringing St. John students over for pep rallies, immersing them in the Battle Creek culture. He was always appreciative to be received with so much enthusiasm. It was that feeling of creating a family between the two schools that he felt made a lasting impact. Mark considers himself blessed to have had the opportunity to work with so many students and is forever grateful to have played a role in Battle Creek’s rich tradition.
