Megan Lutt, daughter of Chris and Kristy Lutt, attended St. John Lutheran School before coming to Battle Creek High School as a freshman. She is a member of St. John Lutheran Church. Megan participated in mock trial for two years; speech, drama, and golf for three; and FCCLA and quiz bowl during all four years of high school. In golf, Megan qualified for the Class C state tournament three years in a row and was the 2020 Midstate Conference and District C-3 individual runner-up. During her senior year, Megan served as a FCCLA State Peer-Ed Officer and as the class vice-president. Megan is also the editor of the yearbook. In the classroom, Megan has earned several honors, including the NSAA Academic All-State award. She has been a member of the Battle Creek National Honor Society for two years and served as the chapter secretary during her senior year. Megan has been on the A Honor Roll for all four years of high school. Outside of school, Megan enjoys hanging out with friends and hammocking. She has worked as a waitress at Goody’s Grille since 2019 and as a nurse’s aide at Community Pride Care Center since the beginning of 2020. After graduation, Megan plans to attend Nebraska Wesleyan University to study biology. In the future, she plans to become either a physician’s assistant or a physician. Best wishes, Megan!

Rebecca Claire Arkfeld, daughter of Karen and Richard Arkfeld, attended St. John’s Lutheran School through fifth grade before coming to Battle Creek Elementary as a sixth grader. She has been part of the Battle Creek Public Schools ever since. Becca was active in FCCLA and speech and drama during all four years of high school. In both activities, she served as a chapter officer for two years. In FCCLA, Becca served as District Officer of Competitive Events during her junior year. In speech, she was chosen as Rookie of the Year in 2018, she was honorably mentioned as the Speech and Drama Underclassmen of the Year in 2019, and she was chosen as Outstanding Speech and Drama Underclassmen in 2020. Becca participated in cheerleading for three years, and she served as a cheer captain for two. As a senior, Becca has been active in FFA, where she currently serves as the organization’s president. In addition, she has been a class officer for three years. When asked to name a favorite staff member at BCHS, Becca listed Mrs. Kristin Colvey, stating “She was the strongest mentor I had throughout my high school years.” Becca listed her favorite class as Mrs. Angela Gray’s junior English III class because she enjoyed the small class and the discussions while reading The Scarlet Letter and To Kill a Mockingbird. Outside of school, Becca enjoys listening to music, spending time with her friends and her animals, and participating in 4-H, where she was named 4H’er of the Year in 2016. She also works part time at Goody’s Grille in Battle Creek. After graduation, Becca plans to attend Wayne State College to major in business. Best wishes, Becca!

Mari Clair Spale, daughter of Lisa and Steve Spale, has attended Battle Creek Public Schools for all thirteen years of her education. When asked to list a favorite staff member at BCHS, Mari mentioned Ms. Laura Johns, stating, “She is very calm and has small classes.” Mari listed choir and reading as her favorite subjects in school and added that she loved reading both mythology and Shakespeare. After graduation, Mari plans to go into the workforce. She hopes to one day study psychology at Wayne State College. Best wishes, Mari!

Great job to the track teams today at the BC Invite! Both the girls and boys were team champs! Fun to watch so many great performances and photo-finishes. Congrats again to Renee Brummels for breaking the 36-year old long jump record previously held by Linda Schnitzler! 🏆🥇💜

Alli Kay Petersen, daughter of Jenn Petersen and Tyler Schmidt and Grant and Staci Hurlbert, attended school in Winside, Randolph, and Norfolk before coming to the Battle Creek Public Schools in eighth grade. While in high school, Alli was active in one act play production and FCCLA for three years, she was in speech and cheerleading for two, and she has been a member of FFA this year as a senior. Alli has been chosen as Student of the Month and she earned a letter for her efforts as a cheerleader. When asked to name a favorite teacher, Alli listed Mrs. Stephanie Nelson, stating, “She is a very fun teacher, and I am able to talk to her about anything.” Outside of school, Alli has participated in 4-H where she was a Reserve Champ twice for showing goats. In her free time, Alli likes to listen to music and hang out with her friends. After graduation, Alli plans to attend Northeast Community College to earn an associate’s degree in veterinary technology. Best wishes, Alli!
