Devin Ray Hassler, son of Curtis and Shannon Hassler, attended St. John Lutheran School in Battle Creek for preschool before coming to Battle Creek Public Schools for the remainder of his education.
Devin participated in football for three seasons and in wrestling and track during all four years of high school. For his efforts on the mat, Devin earned an Iron Man Award and an honor for the Most Exciting Match. In addition, he was a member of the State Dual Championship team as a senior. In cross country this past fall, Devin served as one of the team captions.
Aside from athletics, Devin served as a Trailblazer this past year, and he earned a Student of the Month award on one occasion.
Outside of school, Devin is employed at Jimmy John’s. In addition, he completed basic training and is a member of the Army National Guard. When he has free time, Devin enjoys hanging out with family and friends.
When asked to name a favorite teacher at Battle Creek High, Devin named Mr. Jonah Heng because he is able to “make learning and athletics fun.” Devin listed his favorite subject as science because he enjoys learning the different processes and likes doing projects. Devin said that some of his fondest memories are from running and competing in track with his older brother as a freshman and sophomore. He also enjoyed playing football with his brother. Devin commented that he could never thank the students and staff enough for all the great experiences he had at BCHS.
After high school, Devin plans to finish his military training before attending college at Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska. He will be a member of their cross country and track teams while studying secondary science education there.
